The Trump administration is using every trick in the book to derail and devalue the 2020 Census in order to disenfranchise minority communities. This critical count of the national population determines congressional representation, legislative districts, and vital federal funding for states.

BLOCK EXTREMIST & UNQUALIFIED JUDGES: No Zealots in Lifetime Positions
We’re tracking the most concerning nominees to lifetime judicial appointments, in partnership with other progressive groups. Justin Walker, a nominee to the DC Court of Appeals, opposes the ACA, unions, and civil rights and is the latest in a long line of extremist, unqualified nominees.

IMPEACHMENT
The House impeached President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, and the Senate voted to acquit. Only one Republican senator found him guilty, and it wasn’t Susan Collins.
QUICK ACTION: Congress was unable to hold Trump accountable, so now the job is ours. Thank Senator King for honoring his oath and serving his constituents ethically and honorably.

FACT CHECK: Correcting Anti-Vaccine Testimony
While measles outbreaks are spreading across 22 states and Maine’s pertussis rate is the worst in the nation, our state’s non-medical vaccination opt-out rate is more than triple the national average. At the public hearing earlier this year for a law passed by the Maine Legislature to strengthen vaccination requirements for school children, false and misleading information was shared by anti-vaccination advocates. We decided to do some fact checking to set the record straight.

BAN BUMP STOCKS: Submit a Public Comment by June 27
The ATF has proposed a rule that would ban bump stocks under the National Firearms Act, and the public comment period is open until June 27. Gun rights activists have already added tens of thousands of comments opposing the measure. QUICK ACTION: Submit your comment before the deadline, voicing your support for the rule change.
#WearOrange: Attend Gun Violence Awareness Events June 1-2

END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Support Batterer Intervention Program and domestic violence laws
Two bills held over from the last session would help reduce domestic violence. Both are now before the Appropriations Committee and will either be funded and sent on to the Senate for a final vote, or allowed to die on the table. QUICK ACTION: Contact members of the Appropriations Committee and tell them to fund LD 525 and LD 524 and send them to the Senate for a final vote.
HOLD DEVOS ACCOUNTABLE: Oppose Discrimination in Education
In a recent budget hearing in the House of Representatives, Betsy DeVos indicated that she would not be opposed to allowing schools that engage in discrimination to receive federal funding. Contact Betsy DeVos, the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights, and your Members of Congress to let them know that this is unacceptable and that taxpayer money should never be given to schools that discriminate against any group of students or staff.
