Quick Action

In the wake of disturbing comments made after the Parkland school shooting, news that Russians may have been funding the organization to make political inroads, and its continuous funding of legislators, a campaign has begun to dismantle the group’s ties to other businesses. Let the companies who support and oppose the NRA know how you feel by joining the #boycottNRA campaign.

THE ISSUE

As a result of the NRA’s tone-deaf response to the mass murder of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in which the organization pushed back against calls for stricter gun control laws and said the media “love mass shootings” because they are “ratings gold,” gun control advocacy groups began a campaign to take a bite out of the NRA’s wallet.  #boycottNRA calls for companies to sever their ties to the NRA, including discount affiliates and gun retailers. Thanks to the backing of groups like ThinkProgress, the campaign has been highly successful, with many major corporations severing their relationships, and other companies like DICK’s Sporting Goods, Walmart, and L.L. Bean, changing their gun sale policies to reflect the kind of gun control advocates wish to see Congress and state legislatures pass.

THE ACTION

Flood the social media accounts of the following business to shame their ties to the NRA and/or gun sales. These are just a few of the higher profile companies that do business with the NRA. If you’re ready for more, check out this comprehensive NRA Boycott list. Twitter is highly effective for this kind of work, so if you don’t yet have an account, now is a good time to jump in! ALWAYS use the hashtag #boycottNRA when sending messages to NRA-linked companies. And as much as you may want to throttle their CEOs, the most effective messages are the polite ones. So go high!
